Christ Died for Sins, I Peter 3:1

I. Once for all (See also Romans 6:10, Hebrews 7:27, 10:10)

II. The Just for the Unjust

  1. Same wording as Isaiah 53:11 (Similar to the use of Isaiah 53 in I Peter 2:21-25)
  2. “The Righteous One” as a New Testament Title for Christ (See also Acts 3:14, 7:52, 22:14; I John 2:1, 29; 3:7)

III.     To bring us to God Alternative:  To lead us to God, to make access to God possible (See also, Ephesians 2:18 and Hebrews 4:14-16)

  1. Having been put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit
  2. Flesh – meaning the fallen human condition
  3. Spirit – meaning the divine, righteous realm
  4. Other passages in the New Testament that make this same distinction (See also Matthew 26:41, John 6:63, Galatians 5:16-25, Romans 8:1-17)
  5. He died for us in the likeness of the sinful, human condition
  6. He was made alive through divine, spiritual power
