DL Moody: The Secret Power of the Holy Spirit
- Born in 1837 in Massachusetts
- Father died when he was four years old; mother moved him and his 8 siblings had to live away from home in order to have food and shelter
- At 17 took a job at his uncle’s shoe store in Boston
- Came to faith through the witness of a Sunday school teacher at the Congregational Church of Mount Vernon
- Started a Sunday School in Boston that grew to 650 students
- During the Civil War, he refused to serve in the military but spent his time ministering on the frontlines to the soldiers
- After the war he moved to Chicago and started a church
- In 1872 travelled to England for extensive evangelistic preaching ministry for three years
- Returned to US and continued his preaching along with his continued involvement in a variety of ministries
- Died in 1899 at the age of 62
