God Seeks Worshipers

 

John 4:23-24 "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

God Seeks Worshipers

  1. In Spirit

          A.      Authentic worship involves the heart, the emotions, the soul

          B.      Truth alone does not mean worship is occurring

          C.      The Jews were case in point

  1. In Truth

          A.      Authentic worship involves objective truth believed, embraced,              upheld

          B.      Spirit alone does not mean worship is occurring

          C.      The Samaritans were case in point

I.     In Spirit

--

John 3:1 Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews

John 3:5-7 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’

Isaiah 29:13 Then the Lord said, “Because this people draw near with their words and honor Me with their lip service, but they remove their hearts far from Me, and their reverence for Me consists of tradition learned by rote,

II.   In Truth

--

     A.   Authentic worship involves objective truth believed, embraced, upheld

--

     B.   Spirit alone does not mean worship is occurring

--

     C.   The Samaritans were case in point

--

John 4:10 "Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

John 4:16-18 " He said to her, “Go, call your husband and come here.” The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have correctly said, ‘I have no husband’; for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; this you have said truly.” "

John 4:21-22 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.
