Definition of prophecy: Using the spiritual gift of spoken words that come directly or indirectly from Scripture to strengthen, encourage and comfort others. I Corinthians 14:3

1.  All prophecy and all other gifts should be used to glorify God, I Corinthians 11:31

2.  All prophecy and all other gifts should be used for the advancement of the Gospel, I Corinthians 11:32-33

3.  All prophecy and all other gifts come through the work of the Holy Spirit, I Corinthians 12:5-11 (see Acts 16:6-10 and Acts 20:20-28)

4.  All prophecy and all other gifts should be used for the sake of the common good of the church, I Corinthians 12:7

5.  All prophecy and all other gifts should be used out of a motive of love for one another, I Corinthians 13

6.  All prophecy should be confirmed by the church, I Corinthians 14:29 (see Acts 13:1-4)

7.  All prophecy is for the sake of education and encouragement, I Corinthians 14:31-32

8.  All prophecy should be done in an orderly way, I Corinthians 14:33 and 40

9.  All prophecy must be consistent with the Scripture, I Corinthians 14:36-37

10.  Not all supposed “prophecy” or supposed “prophets” should be accepted in the church, I Corinthians 14:38
