Passage: Romans 7:21-8:1

Speaker: Daniel Sweet

We Need a Savior, Romans 7:21-25; Romans 8:1

Background: This passage describes the sad state of a believer trying to live according to the Law instead of living according to the Spirit of God

Notice:

1.      "The one who wants to do good."

Contrast Romans 3:10-12 with Romans 7:21

2.      "I joyfully concur with the Law in the inner man."

Contrast II Corinthians 4:16 with Romans 7:22

3.      "So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin."

Contrast Romans 8:1-4 with Romans 7:23-25

Conclusions:

1.      The Law not only condemns unbelievers eternal, but is also powerless in the life of believers.

2.      We need a Savior not just from the eternal consequences of sin but from the daily battle with sin in our sinful nature.

3.      This is why Christ came, to break the power of sin and death brought about by the consequences of breaking the Law.

4.      In Christ, there is no condemnation because Christ has fulfilled the           requirement of the Law.

5.      Now, having been saved by Christ, we walk not according to the Law but according to the Spirit.
